Alabama troopers searching for driver who fled fatal crash

Alabama State Troopers are searching for a vehicle that they say caused a fatal car crash a couple of weeks ago. Troopers are asking for help from anyone who might have information regarding a 2000-2004 Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle. Police say that the vehicle will have the front right portion of its bumper broken off.

On a recent Friday evening the SUV, of an unknown color, got into a car crash in Fairhope on Alabama 181 not far from the five-mile marker. Police say that the driver of the vehicle was a black male, who fled the crash scene traveling southbound along Alabama 181 right after the collision. News agencies have distributed photos of what a 2000-2004 Chevrolet Tahoe looks like in general, but authorities are not certain what color the vehicle involved in the accident was.

When a driver flees the scene of a car crash, it is a crime in the state of Alabama. The severity of that crime is elevated when serious property damage, injury or death are associated with the crash. In addition to locating the fleeing driver for the purpose of criminal prosecution, it is also vital for the family members of the victims who die in a crash and/or for those who are injured in the crash. If the fleeing driver was at fault for causing the crash, these individuals may be able to file civil court claims for personal injury or wrongful death damages against the at-fault driver.

The financial damages potentially recoverable in such an accident claim could be essential for injured parties to pay for their medical bills associated with the crash. They could also be essential for surviving family members to make financial ends meet following the unnecessary death of a primary contributor to family income.
